Iceland // Heimaey

November 5, 2015
heimaey, westman islands

Heimaey (I think it’s pronounced like “hey-my”) is a beautiful island about a 30 minutes’ ferry ride off the coast of Iceland, and I highly recommend you reserve a day for it if you’re headed to Iceland. It has beautiful colored houses, intriguing lava rocks, my favorite restaurant I visited in Iceland…not to mention the journey there is an experience in itself. One of the most interesting things about Heimaey is that there was a volcanic eruption there in on a…

Iceland // Vík

November 4, 2015

Vík. You stunner, you. If you’re going to make a trip to Iceland, you have to stop in Vík. The black beaches are gorgeous, and the town itself is charming. And it was actually the only place where I was able to find Pastellfiskar that were actually shaped like fish. Victoria and I stayed at the cutest little cottage there (see below). “Marvin Gaye” by Charlie Puth played on the radio constantly on our way to Vík, so by the…

Iceland // Sólheimasandur + Dyrholay

November 4, 2015

Next up: Sólheimasandur and Dyrholay. This is when we were finally approaching the Vík region of Iceland. As you drive through, you kinda feel like you’re in Bon Iver’s “Holocene” music video, which was apparently filmed in this region of Iceland. Sólheimasandur is where we caught a glimpse of an abandoned US Navy DC-3 plane from the 1970s. I’ll be honest—it was suuuper annoying to get to because the terrain was so rugged, and it was pretty crowded when we eventually…

Iceland // Skogafoss

November 3, 2015

After a month of putting blogging on the backburner…the Iceland saga continues! Here are some photos from Skogafoss, another impressive waterfall in Iceland. My favorite part of Skogafoss was actually driving away from it afterward…this herd of cows decided to cross the road right as we approached them, and it was the funniest thing ever. “Photograph” by Ed Sheeran was playing at the time. That song will forever remind me of that moment.  …

Iceland // Seljalandsfoss

October 1, 2015

Are you sick of Iceland yet? Too bad 🙂 Victoria and I visited Seljalandsfoss waterfall on the way to Vík. There’s a path where you can walk behind it, and it the sun is out, you’re pretty much guaranteed a rainbow. In short, it was absolutely breathtaking. I might even venture to say that it was the most beautiful thing I saw while in Iceland. So if you’re wondering what you need to see while in Iceland…definitely this. #tastetherainbow “Victoria,…

Iceland // Reykjavík Lighthouse

September 30, 2015

Just kidding about the waterfall, guys. That will be tomorrow. It turns out that I have so many photos from our adventure to Reykjavík’s lighthouse that it just wouldn’t be right to squeeze everything into one post! So here are some photos from when Victoria and I visited the lighthouse in Reykjavík before heading southeast toward Vík. I’m thinking this Iceland series might take me two weeks now haha. Clearly I was feeling like Peter Pan in the above picture.…
